Today’s thing is just a huge pile of photos of a Shimadzu EDX-720 energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometer!
X-Ray fluorescence spectrometers are used for materials analysis, the instrument fire an X-Ray at a sample then through a diffraction grating to a detector.
As there are XRays involved, there’s a huge heavy metal shield which is the bulk of the instrument.
I’ve pulled out the detector, and have been pondering what to do with it…
